Keep Riding
A couple months ago I was in the midst of a meeting in my office, when suddenly there was a knock at the door. This knock wasn’t an ordinary knock, but instead it sounded like a knock that needed immediate response. In the back of my mind, I was thinking, “Everyone on the staff was notified of my daily scheduled meeting times. I wonder who this could be.” Well, at the door was one of my sons and without reservation he said, “Daddy, we need you to come outside quickly and watch us do something!” I knew that it had to be something very important, so I informed those I was meeting with that I would be back momentarily. To my surprise, when I went outside my sons’ training wheels were off their bikes and they were riding their bikes all by themselves. Immediately, my heart was flooded with joy and laughter, and I found myself clapping my hands, because they no longer required the assistance they once needed to ride their bikes.
Many times, God speaks extraordinary things to us through the vehicle of the ordinary. Just as I was interrupted from my scheduled meeting, so I believe God desires to interrupt us from the normalcy of our lives to reveal something to us. News reports point out to us, on a daily basis, that the nation is in the midst of a recession, foreclosures are rampant, joblessness is at an all time high, and tragedy is a frequent occurrence. However, there are a few insights of triumph in the midst of the trouble, which I would like to share:
Answer the Door
There are times when God allows temporary inconveniences to occur in our lives in order to bring forth permanent blessings. Often times, God has to interrupt our way of doing things to reveal how He wants to do things in our lives. Will you answer the door?
Be Interdependent
In simple terms, dependence is to rely on another; independence is to rely on one’s self; but interdependence is to be mutually responsible for a common set of principles. I sincerely believe that our lives in Christ have to be interdependent. God desires to work through us to accomplish His purpose for us on the earth. Are there false structures erected in your life when it comes to depending on anyone or anything but God? Is there an unhealthy independence present in your life as you’re trying to make things happen for yourself?
Keep Moving
The God’s Word Translation says in II Corinthians 5:7, “Indeed, our lives are guided by faith, not by sight.” Faith in Christ will allow you to keep riding, in life in spite of what happens around you. Will you keep moving in faith, when unfavorable situations rise up in your life?
